We are working with a leading Top 10 UK consulting firm based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, who are looking for an Operations Manager to join their growing finance practice. This practice area is responsible for client back office financial functions as per each individual engagement letter in place. Their role is to complete all monthly ledger work booking of accruals and prepayments, fixed assets, accounts payable and completion of monthly management accounts. Controlling bank accounts and bank reconciliations and in some cases making payments on behalf of the client or setting up the payment runs for their approval and release.

Responsibilities

This role will be to facilitate and liaise between the shared service centre teams for the processing and management of information, and the other relevant UK offices which hold and manage the relationship with the external client.

The role is responsible for the resource management of the Belfast service teams, the delivery of a first-class product with in the deadlines provided, assisting in the enablement of the client relationship office to deliver the contracted service in a seamless manner and to timetable.

Duties are as follows: 

  • Plan workload of the Belfast team, ensuring all holidays and study leave are covered by other team members before being approved, and all month end timetables as agreed with clients are adhered to
  • Oversee the day to day activities and providing support and guidance where applicable
  • Oversee a rapid response to regular daily queries and information requests from clients, by email and telephone, delegating tasks as required.
  • Check and approve purchase invoice batches and journals prepared by junior team members and release postings in to the accounting system
  • Check and release payments made on behalf of clients as needed
  • Review and quality assurance on all aspects of the work from the service teams
  • Review production of monthly management information as required by each client
  • Review VAT returns as prepared by the team, including any partial exemption calculations
  • Review ECSL, Nat Stats and any other Government Returns required, eg FCA returns, PSA return
  • Meet/speak regularly with the client service team to discuss their current and future issues/plans, and ensure client is satisfied with service provided and to keep them up to date with regards service issues
  • Continuously review current practices and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness, recommend and implement improvements where necessary
  • Ensure that the team always complies with firm policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Management experience
  • Experience of preparing monthly financial and management information and of finance ledgers
  • Familiarity with accounting/ERP systems e.g. Navision, Netsuite
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to identify anomalies
  • Proactive with good analytical skills – ability to find solutions and explain them clearly
  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good organisation skills, ability to work to tight deadlines and flexible with working hours over month end
  • Focused on providing excellent client service
